Well today was a big day for me to get organized! I spent some of the day going through all the books in our library. We have so many that they don’t all fit in the bookcases! I guess we must be readers around here. So….I pulled out all these books that I’ve held onto since high school/college and don’t have any intention of ever reading again. My dh had a good amount of those too, so he pulled those out when he came home from work.
Well, I listed all that were able to be listed on half.com, and it turned out that we had 74 books to sell! Half of them had never even been cracked open, and some I was very glad to be rid of. Well, I’ll just have to see how many sell, but I can say that, if all of them sell, I’ll have a few hundred dollars of extra money to do with as I please. I’m trying to find creative ways to make money without sacrificing more time because we are in need of new dishes and a couple more household/furniture items.
If you’d like to take a look over the books, here’s the link to my selling site:

There’s quite a few $0.99 cent books on there! (Just as a disclaimer, some of the books–Short Cuts, in particular–I do not endorse. We had to purchase a few of them for my husband’s schooling. Check with me if you have any questions about the books.)
Any other great ideas for quick and simple moneymaking?
From Mrs. H:
Hi there! I’ve been doing the same thing. I started out with this company . . .
http://cash4books.net/index.php?ref=45331. They actually buy your books from you and pay the shipping costs for you to mail the books to them. I made about $70 and still have two boxes of books in my basement to go through. They pay very quickly too. What cash4books does not take, I’m going to probably use half.com to sell . . . then yard sale . . . then goodwill. My husband is military and after four moves, I am sick of unpacking books from college that I really won’t use. My goal is to only have one book case full of really good books. Right, now I have three books cases worth. . . big 6 ft tall bookcases!
Good Luck! I wanted to pass on the info about cash4books since they are easy to use and pretty quick.
From Jennifer:
Great idea, thanks for sharing. I have too many books too.
From JoAnna T.:
I stumbled on your blog through Biblical Womanhood’s Frugal Friday post.
I sell books occasionally too, mostly ones I’ve picked up for a quarter at the local library. I haven’t sold on half.com yet, only on the regular Ebay.
But I do know of a site that, while it doesn’t enable you to earn money, is a help if you have a lot of readers around your house. http://www.paperbackswap.com You agree to pay the shipping (Media Mail) to anyone who requests books you list, and for each book you send off, you receive a book credit good toward any other book on the site. No money is exchanged, and you don’t pay the site anything either–just basically swap shipping costs on books. I haven’t listed many books there yet, but I’m planning to.
Blessings,
JoAnna
