So I went shopping at Safeway last week because I’d heard such great things about the Summer savings marathon they have going on. I thought I could pretty easily find 25 items on sale to purchase and then get $20 to use on my next trip there. Well, little did I know that I never buy the kinds of things they had approved for the sale. I figured I’d still try to find enough for one of the smaller certificates. I barely found enough for the 9-item, $5 certificate, but they were all things I would actually use. I just wanted to double check that I was buying enough items (and not one too few) because the computer wouldn’t spit out anything if I came under.
I went up to ask the checker for the number of items, but she told me that she didn’t know and sent me to the customer service desk. I asked the lady at the customer service desk, who had no clue what I was even talking about, and she eventually sent me to the assistant manager, two aisles down. When I finally asked the assistant manager, he also gave me the deer-in-the-headlights look and had no clue what I was talking about. They all had given me the same answer. I would need to check out in order to find out if I had enough items. I’m thinking, “doesn’t anyone around here know about their own deals? Am I really the only one who looked at the ad and noticed the little blue tags all over the store?” Anyhow, the manager finally looked at the next week’s ad, once I asked him to do that, and we found that I did, indeed, have enough items after only 2 seconds of looking at the ad. Apparently, no one even told the assistant manager about this deal! I mean, seriously! Poor guy was sooo confused when I was first talking to him.
All these items at Safeway were extra to my usual shopping, so I went from there over to Whole Foods to do my regular shopping. Beside having workers constantly asking if I needed help, (which no one at Safeway did, by the way) I could have asked any one of them about the best deals or about any food item, and they would have known all there is to know about it. I’ve asked about all sorts of obscure ingredients to random workers, and they all know about the ingredient, who sold it, and where they did or did not stock it. I’ve been constantly amazed by the service at Whole Foods. I love that the checkers are more than willing to help and are very knowledgeable about their foods, especially since I have a food allergy and sometimes have questions.
Anyhow, there’s so many more reasons why I love to shop there, but I’ll step off the soap box now. Have a good weekend!
